Fact-Check Sites

This page contains links to several "Fact-Check" websites that evaluate (mostly political) claims posted on websites, and claims in email posts from "Mr. Anonymous" . Many articles are slanted politically to the left or right, many are outright lies, many are examples of "scare-mongering", some are just "rants".

Note: There are many attack articles on the internet relating to these sites. The VAST majority are originated after the fact-checks "debunk" somebody's bogus political claims (especially the attack articles that slither out from under rocks near a national election). Most of the attacks contain outrageous claims (lies) that have been thoroughly discredited.

Best website, well funded, very well organized, they're the ones with the "truth-o-meter", with the "pant's-on-fire" designation for the worst lies. Easy to use, easy to find stuff.  Project of the Tampa Bay Times and its partners to help you find the truth in politics.

Very professional website, well funded, well organized, good presentation. In-depth, easy to find analyses of current political topics. Nopartisan, nonprofit “consumer advocate” for voters that aims to reduce the level of deception and confusion in U.S. politics.  FactCheck is a project of the Annenberg Public Policy Center of the University of Pennsylvania.

Amateur site. Not as well organized as some of the others. Concentrates on "trash" emails being circulated (some are political, others are hoaxes). Easy to check out an "anonymous" email, using keyword search. Small site, doesn't check as much stuff as others. Seems to check out more republican "trash", than dem "trash". Officially "the Urban Legends Reference Pages", is a web site discussing urban legends, Internet rumors, e-mail forwards, and other stories of uncertain or questionable origin.
Deals mostly with "hoaxes", little coverage of political claims.
