General Facebook Help

This page provides facebook help, mainly for topics I've used. For more help, use the online facebook help. On your facebook page, click "accounts" upper right corner, then "help center". You can then select categories or search for particular help topics.

WARNING:  Facebook has made a LOT of changes since some of this stuff was written.

Video tutorials:  Free tutorials (Not mine!)

Short, simple video tutorial on facebook.  Useful stuff for the beginner.  Unfortunately, the creator has retired from the independent computer business to become a "genius" with Apple Computer. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FwSK9dImHEE

Facebook for grownups (10 part series).  Good tutorial series on facebook basics.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QCVi0-50Vmo&feature=related

To edit:  Click "edit doc" (at top), change title or text, click "save".
To delete: Click "delete", then click "confirm".
Create shortcut to a facebook web page:
See page "help", "computer help", "general computer help", topic "create a shortcut to a web page".
Forwarding emails from gmail (or other reader) to a facebook group:    Forwarded mail has a lot of "stuff" (addresses, etc) and clutters up the facebook page.  Best to copy the necessary parts of a message, then post it as a new email.  WARNING:  If the email you copy  and paste contains embedded links without the url address, the links WILL NOT WORK.  You need to open each link, then copy and paste the url from the open web page into your new email.  If this is too complicated, and the email is important, just forward the whole email page.  If the entire email is forwarded, the links are preserved.
The rest of this help is very advanced.  Most members should skip it.  It's mainly here to remind me what NOT to do.

Advanced bug:  If you edit a personal website, then post it's link on facebook (as I did with this site), facebook displays a preview (part of the websites first page) with the link on the facebook page. Facebook stores this preview in a cache that is not user-accessable. Later, when you make changes to the (first page of the)website, and post the link again, the preview is displayed from the cache and still shows the old web content. When you click on the link to open the page, the correct page is displayed. The cache will eventually get refreshed (3-5 days) and the problem will go away.
