Tips For Replacing Audio

Don't overwrite the old audio with the replacement audio because,  if your replacement audio is slightly shorter, you will leave a sliver of silence or of sound before or after the new audio.  Normalizing a sliver of silence will produce a burst of noise.  A sliver of sound will be distracting when the video plays.  Delete the old audio, THEN insert the replacement audio.
If you are inserting new audio that's slightly too long into an empty gap, options will be displayed to show you it doesn't fit.
If the video shows a speaker's lips, replace isolated, single words.  Otherwise, it won't look right.  To replace multiple words, re-record the video.
If a speaker's lips aren't shown, don't try to replace single words.  The intonation won't match.  Replace a group of words, preferably a sentence.Basic Editing With PowerDirector 18 Edit Audio
This video shows how to change the audio portion of a video, without changing the video portion.  This video should be watched after video "How To Set Your Recording Level".

Problems while editing:

When a range is defined (for the produce range function), DO NOT NORMALIZE any tracks.  PD may drastically increase the volume of clips outside the range, and it is difficult to reverse the change.  Deselect the range before normalizing.
Sometimes, the audio waveform is not displayed, and may appear after a few minutes.  A forum suggestion to fix that is:  right-click in the media window (upper left while editing), and select "empty all unused content from library".   A fix that frequently works for me is to insert extra splits in the video that is missing the waveform.  Another fix to try:  edit - preferences.  clicik "Manually Delete", "select all", "delete selected file", "close".
Waveform is out of sync with the actual sound.  This sometimes happens when you expand the timeline.  To correct it, reduce the timeline, test each time you expand it slightly.  (listen to the video while you watch the waveform display.
