Using A Facebook Group

This page describes how to use the features on a facebook group page.

Note: I use gmail as my "non-facebook" email reader, all examples for emails use that. If you use a different reader, your steps may be slightly different.

Go to a Facebook Group:  Open your facebook home page (click "Home" on any facebook page), click the name of the group in the left column under "groups".

Easy Access to a group page:  I recommend you create a shortcut for your facebook group on your desktop. See "help", "computer help", "general computer help", topic "create a shortcut to an open webpage".

Complex msgs:  Compose complicated facebook msgs, emails, or comments in a simple word processor. (I use Notepad.)  Use a simple word processor -- otherwise you'll be asked how to convert it when posting it.  You can insert any links in the text by typing or pasting. Copy your message (hilite, press control-c), then paste it into a facebook or email message (control-v). 
Put a facebook group email address in your email contacts list: (This will let you post facebook group msgs from your email reader.)
Open your email reader.
Create group doc:
Click "contacts" in the left column.
Click "new contact".
Type the name of your facebook group.
Click box "email:"
Type the email address for your group.
Press "return".
Click "mail" left column.
Reply to facebook group msg from email reader:   You can reply to a facebook group message that appears in your email reader, and the reply will be posted on the group page (as a comment to the msg).
Post a msg on a facebook group page from your email reader:(I use gmail).
Open your email program.
If you haven't already put the group's email address in your address book (described above), you should do so.
Click "compose" (left column).
Click in box "TO:".
The next step assumes the group is in your contacts list, if not, you'll have to type the whole email address.
Start typing your group's name, when our address appears, click it.
Type or paste your subject and text. You may paste or type web links in the msg text.
Click "send".
The message will appear on the facebook group page, but will NOT appear in your gmail inbox. It will appear in your "sent mail" box.
Edit a message (or a comment) you've already posted:
Go to the TDA group page.
Copy the msg (hilite it, press control-c).
Delete old msg: Hover the cursor (mouse) over the right end of the msg, to the right of your name. An "x" will appear. Click it, then click "remove post". Then click to confirm the delete. (On IPAD, just tap on the right side of the msg to delete it.)
Click the new msg box near the top (it contains "write something")
Press control-v to paste in the msg you just copied and deleted.
Edit the message to "fix" it. Click "post".

View members "walls", photos, info:
Click "See all" (above members photos on right column)
Click photo or name of a member to see his wall.  Once there, you can see anything they haven't protected.  Click the back browser button to return to the TDA page.
Cancel any unfinished facebook operation:
Just leave the page (or close your browser).
If you want to cancel and stay on the TDA page, just click "Trilogy Democratic Association" at the top of the page.
